5 Day Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu Route

Day 1: Marangu Gate (1,800 m) To Mandara Hut (2,720 m)
In the morning, drive fromMoshi to Marangu gate for registration formalities and trekking preparations. Start climbing through coffee and maize plantations leading into the rainforest. The path leads to Mandara hut for resting and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,720 m) To Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Climb from the rainforest into the moorland zone with magnificent views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Climb steadily through the giant heather where the trail leads to Horombo Hut. Have rest upon arrival and take time gaining energy for the next day. Dinner and sleep at the hut.
Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) to Kibo Hut (4,720 m)
Climb steeply towards the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The terrain changes to screed and there is a palpable sense of high altitude wilderness. The path leads to Kibo Hut to arrive in the afternoon. Have personal time resting and recuperating for the final ascend. It’s advised to take high amount of water and sleep early by 19:00 pm.
Day 4: Kibo Hut (4,720 m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) To Horombo Hut (3,720 m)
Wake up by 23:30 for a hotcup of coffee and putting on trekking gears. Start climbing by midnightthrough the volcanic screen to reach Gilman’s (5,681 m) by sunrise. Take time to rest and make the final round trip to reach Uhuru Peak (5895m). At the summit, take pictures while feeling accomplished standing at the roof of Africa. Start descending t to reach Horombo hut in the late afternoon. Dinner and sleep at the hut.
Day 5: Horombo Hut (3,720 m) To Marangu Gate (1,800 m)
Descend through moorland into the beautiful lush green forest. Arrive at the gate by mid-day for tipping the crew (guides, porters and cookers) and certificate awards. Green certificates are awarded to hikers who reached Gilman’s and golden to the ones who reached Uhuru peak. Drive back to Arusha for resting and much celebrations or a flight back home.
